Sharing meals with unborn baby

Sting captured it well in the opening lines of his song: “Every breath you take, every move you make … every step you take, I'll be watching you. Every single day, and every word you say…”

Baby inboard is indeed watching you! You are her or his everything, the precious mother ship. By the time she makes that long awaited appearance researchers tell us she already knows your voice from all the other sounds that reach her, because it comes to her strongly through your own body. There are lovely stories about parents-to-be talking and singing to their little bumps and seeing positive responses and recognition of songs from baby after birth.

Mom and dad’s enjoyment of time with the expected little one goes beyond sound and gentle massage of baby and tummy. Everything that mom eats is a shared picnic with the growing person within, who experiences tastes and smells through the amniotic fluid.

Concerns about good nutrition may not have been on the horizon before pregnancy, but during the nine months it is very important. Moms-to-be need to increase their food intake and the quality of its nutritional value. Apparently if mom eats a wide range of foods during pregnancy, it prepares baby to be more adventurous in sampling and enjoying various delicious foods later in life!

There is a lot of advice on the Internet about good nutrition for moms-to-be who aren’t sure about what they should or should not be having. Spoiler alert: well cooked foods (no sushi or underdone steak), plenty of fresh fruits, dairy products and differently coloured veggies, and it’s important to eat smaller more frequent meals that keep mom’s blood sugar stable.

You may also like to take out a little nutritional insurance from Nativa’s Mom2B range of Pregnancy Shakes, Pregnancy Supplements and Pregnancy Omega. They have each been formulated to assist in the provision of nutritional, vitamin and mineral requirements of moms and their babies during pregnancy and breastfeeding and complement each other when taken together, without oversupplying any particular ingredient.

  • Mom2B Pregnancy Supplement is a one-a-day multivitamin and mineral supplement with added ginger root extract that can assist the body to help counter nausea.
  • Mom2B Omega soft gel capsules contain Omega-3 fatty acids which greatly influence early infant development including development of the nervous system, the brain and the retina of the eye.
  • Mom2B Pregnancy Shakes in delicious vanilla and strawberry flavours are a convenient meal supplement that can be taken once or twice a day. High in protein and low in fat they taste fantastic, should not aggravate nausea, and the specific combination of soluble and insoluble fibres can support digestion.

Sting didn’t say it, but baby would add: “… every bite you take, I’ll be joining you”.
